The report of a crazy match: "U" Cluj "“ CFR 1907 Cluj 3-3 (13-14 after penalties)
TweetWith a first “11” completely changed after the last fixture, the railroaders had a hesitating match debut on “Ion Moina”, with the home team already in front from the 10th minute, when Soporan scored from the penalty spot, after a foul in the box by Dani. This goal didn’t wake up our players and, in the 23rd minute, Soporan scored his double, again from a penalty, after a foul by Peralta on Şuteu. 2-0 and the cherry-coloured reply failed to appear. Furthermore, in the 43rd minute, Alcantara was sent off after an elbow hit against Şuteu. The half-time score anticipated a huge surprise, after a poor first half for the railroaders.
At comeback, Maurizio Trombetta sent in the heavy artillery: Tony, Culio and then Trică, to retake the match. The effects were immediate and Didi sent the ball into the net past Merlier, after a pass from Deac. 2-1 and CFR 1907 managed to balance the match, showing signs of recovery. Confirmation came in the 77th minute, when Trică equalised with a shot from 16 meters, anticipating the madness that was about to follow. A minute later, Universitatea went ahead after Nuno Claro failed to deflect Şuteu’s shot. And still, in the 80th minute, CFR 1907 equalized for the second time through Peralta, who easily sent the ball into the net, past Merlier. 3-3 and the first 90 minutes caught our team on the attack, looking for the final blow. Unfortunately, the cherry-colured domination didn’t show on the scoreboard and the match went into extra time. The match intensity gradually dropped, with the two teams waiting for the penalties. Other few feeble chances for both sides couldn’t turn the tides and thus the derby between “U” Cluj and CFR 1907 Cluj had to pick its winner at the penalties. In unbearable tension, our players started to score from the spot: Trică, Culio, Deac, Didi, Peralta, Tony, Toma, Panin, Dani, Nuno Claro and again Trică. Soporan missed at 13-14 and the railroaders won a crazy but beautiful match, advancing into the next round of the Romanian Cup.
