CFR 1907 Cluj has suffered the first defeat on home ground this season, the boys trained by Jorge Costa were defeated by Gaz Metan Medias with 2-0. In the first 19 minutes the game was poor in scoring chances, both sides preferring to crowd the play in the midfield. In the 20th minute the Railwaymen missed no less than four consecutive chances to score, Sougou, Mureșan, Rada and again the same Sougou could not send the ball into the net. The guests broke the ice and opened the score in the 39th minute through Ciprian Petre. The last dangerous scoring opportunity belonged to our team, Rafael Bastos sent the ball from a free kick towards the goal defended by Pleșca, but the goalkeeper managed to turn the danger away.
At the beginning of the second half our team launched the offensive. Modou Sougou tried to beat Pleșca, but the Gaz Metan goalkeeper remained unbeaten. Zarko Markovici increased the guests advantage in the 53rd minute and thus setting the final score of the game. In the next round, CFR 1907 Cluj will play against Pandurii Tg. Jiu (22/08/2011).
